I hate the phrase “Out of Pocket”. And I don’t mean “out of pocket” as in “I’m out of pocket $50 because no one told me I had to pay for the cat food.” But rather, “I’m going to be out of the office and out of pocket for the next 24 hours so please don’t call me.”
What the fuck does this mean? And who on earth started this [stupid] trend? (They should stay out of pocket forever.) The only thing I can think of is that maybe (maybe?) it originated on the set of “The Incredible Shrinking Woman”? There are no other instances where this would remotely make sense. (Except, of course, on the Muppet show after Robin [Kermit’s nephew] hatched.)
